What we score

One score out of 100, five category breakdowns, and the exact lines to change in each.

ATS readability

Whether your text comes out in the order a human wrote it. Multi-column layouts, text boxes and header/footer content are the usual culprits when a parser scrambles a resume.

Resume essentials

Whether the sections a recruiter and a parser both expect are present and clearly labelled — contact details, experience, education and skills.

Experience & impact

Whether your bullets show outcomes rather than duties. The check looks for measurable results and flags the statements that read as a job description.

Writing & brevity

Whether the resume can be scanned quickly. Overlong bullets, filler phrasing and inconsistent tense all get called out with the line they appear on.

Skills & keywords

Whether the skills you actually have are findable in the text. A skill mentioned only inside a paragraph is far weaker than one a recruiter can search for.

Optional

Job description match

Paste the posting you are applying to and the report adds a keyword match: which required skills appear in your resume, which are missing, and where to add them.

How it works

Three steps, about a minute. Upload the resume you already have.

  1. 01

    Drop your resume

PDF or DOCX, straight from your desktop. No template, no rewriting, no formatting rules to learn first.

  2. 02

    Add the job description

Optional. Paste the posting and the report also scores how well your resume matches the keywords that role actually asks for.

  3. 03

    Fix and re-check

Work through the prioritised list, then run it again to confirm the score moved before you send the application.

What's a good score?

Four bands. The top one starts at 86 and is deliberately hard to reach — a band everyone hits would tell you nothing.

Very strong86–100

Send it as it is.

Strong71–85

Small edits will take it to the top band.

Good51–70

Fix the flagged items before you apply.

Weakest0–50

Rework the top items before sending this out.

Fix what the report flags, then run it again to confirm the score actually moved before you apply.

Why resumes get filtered

The issues the checker looks for first, because they cost people interviews without ever showing a symptom.

Two-column layouts

Designed resumes often read left-to-right across both columns once parsed, mixing your job titles into your skills list. It looks fine to you and like noise to the system.

Details in the header or footer

Some parsers skip header and footer regions entirely. Put your phone number and email in the body of the document, not in the page furniture.

Skills only inside prose

A recruiter searching their database for a skill matches on the term. If it exists only inside a sentence about a project, it is much less likely to surface.

Tables and text boxes

Content inside a table cell or a floating text box frequently extracts out of order, or does not extract at all. Plain paragraphs and bullets survive every parser.

Duties instead of results

“Responsible for managing the release process” tells a reader nothing. The same line with a number in it is what separates a shortlist from a rejection pile.

Non-standard section names

Creative headings like “Where I've Been” instead of “Experience” stop a parser recognising the section, so its contents may never be filed correctly.

Trusted by job seekers

Thousands of job seekers run their resume through this before they apply.

Common questions

What the score means, what happens to your file, and where the limits are

What is an ATS resume checker?
An applicant tracking system is the software most employers use to receive and filter applications. An ATS resume checker reads your resume the way that software does, then reports what came through cleanly, what was lost, and which keywords are missing. It shows you the version of your resume a recruiter's system actually sees.
Is the ATS resume checker free?
Yes. Creating an account is free, and so is checking your resume — enough to scan, fix and re-scan before you apply. You do not need a paid plan to see your score or your full report.
Do I have to sign up to check my resume?
Yes, and only at the point where the scan runs. You can drop your resume on this page first — the file stays in your browser and is not uploaded or stored until you create an account. Signing up is what lets us run the check and keep your report so you can compare it against your next version.
What is a good ATS score?
On our scale, 71 and above is strong and 86 and above is very strong. Between 51 and 70 there are specific issues worth fixing before you apply, and below 51 the resume needs rework. The report always names what to change rather than leaving you with just a number.
What file formats can I upload?
PDF and DOCX, up to 5 MB. PDF is the safer choice for most applications, but the checker reads both and will tell you if the text could not be extracted cleanly from the file you uploaded.
Does a high score guarantee an interview?
No. The score tells you your resume parses cleanly and covers what the role asks for, which removes a category of silent rejection. It cannot judge your experience against other applicants, and no tool can promise an outcome.
Do you keep my resume?
Nothing leaves your browser until you have an account. After that your checks are saved to your own dashboard so you can compare versions over time, and you can delete them whenever you want.
