Infosys Interview Questions for Freshers: Test Pattern & Rounds

Infosys's Systems Engineer test pattern and HackWithInfy route from Infosys's own pages, plus the technical and HR questions to prepare.

Fresher practising pseudocode and puzzles for an IT company recruitment test

Infosys hires freshers through two main routes. Most candidates take the campus or off-campus test for the Systems Engineer role, which Infosys's own sample paper shows as a 100-minute test of reasoning, technical ability, verbal ability, pseudocode and puzzles, followed by an interview. Strong coders can aim for Specialist Programmer roles through HackWithInfy, where Infosys describes hands-on live coding interviews with technologists.

This guide covers both routes using Infosys's own pages, then lists the technical, HR and project questions to prepare for each. Infosys changes its drives from year to year, so treat the details as a guide and confirm them in your drive email. If Infosys is one of several companies on your list this season, our campus placement preparation plan shows how to schedule them.

Systems Engineer: the written test

Infosys publishes a fresher recruitment sample test for the Systems Engineer role on its InfyTQ platform. It shows five timed sections, 100 minutes in total, with each question worth one mark unless stated otherwise:

SectionTimeWhat it covers
Reasoning Ability25 minutesData interpretation, data sufficiency and logical reasoning
Technical Ability35 minutesTechnical and programming questions
Verbal Ability20 minutesEnglish language ability
Pseudocode10 minutesReading code-like logic and predicting output (2 marks per question)
Puzzle Solving10 minutesLogic puzzles under time pressure

The pseudocode section rewards practice more than any other: you trace loops, conditions and variable updates by hand. Ten questions on paper every day for two weeks is enough to get quick at it.

Specialist Programmer: HackWithInfy and live coding

For higher-paying coding roles, Infosys runs HackWithInfy. The 2026 edition is open to engineering students graduating in 2027, with a virtual qualifying round in March, a face-to-face round in April and a four-day Grand Finale in November. Infosys says participants can get pre-placement interview opportunities for the Specialist Programmer role and other roles in its specialised units.

Infosys's Power Programmers page describes the hiring process in four steps: registration, coding rounds, technical interviews and final selects. The technical interviews are described as "hands-on LIVE coding interviews with technologists", so expect to write and explain working code, not just answer theory.

Technical interview questions to prepare

These are the fundamentals a fresher technical interview commonly covers. They aren't a leaked Infosys list; use them to find gaps.

Programming and problem solving

  • Write a program to check whether a string is a palindrome, then do it without extra space.
  • Find the second-largest element in an array in one pass.
  • Reverse a linked list. Then explain the time and space complexity.
  • What is the difference between a stack and a queue? Give a real use of each.
  • Explain recursion with an example, and when you would avoid it.
  • Trace this loop and tell me what it prints (expect pseudocode on paper).

Object-oriented programming

  • Explain encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism and abstraction with examples from your project.
  • What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?
  • What is a constructor? Can it be private?

Databases and SQL

  • What is normalization? Explain 1NF, 2NF and 3NF.
  • Write a query to find employees earning more than their department's average.
  • What is the difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE and DROP?

Your project

  • Explain your final-year project in two minutes. What was your part?
  • Why did you choose this technology? What would you change now?
  • What was the hardest bug, and how did you find it?

For Specialist Programmer interviews, add medium-level problems on arrays, strings, hashing, trees and dynamic programming, and practise explaining your approach aloud before you code.

HR interview questions to prepare

QuestionHow to answer
Tell me about yourselfDegree, best project with a result, two strengths, why this role. See our self introduction samples
Why Infosys?Something specific: its training, a practice area, or a programme such as Power Programmers if you are aiming for it
Are you willing to relocate?Answer honestly; service roles often involve relocation and shifts
Are you comfortable with shifts?Say what you can manage, clearly
Where do you see yourself in five years?Growth in a technology or role, not "in your chair"
Do you have any questions for us?Ask about training or the first project

A three-week plan

WeekFocus
1Reasoning and puzzles daily (30 minutes); pseudocode tracing (10 questions a day); one programming language basics
2Timed full mocks of the 100-minute test; OOP, DBMS and SQL revision; write your project explanation
3Two mock interviews (technical and HR); fix weak areas; check documents and the drive email instructions

Avoid recruitment fraud

Infosys's careers site carries a recruitment fraud alert. Apply only through Infosys's own careers pages or your college placement cell, and treat any request for money in exchange for a job as fraud.

For solo practice before the interview, InterviewGPT can transcribe a mock interview and suggest a structured answer from your resume, so you can compare it with yours. Use it for preparation; the Infosys interview itself is yours to answer. Download InterviewGPT for Windows and practise with the free 10-minute sessions. Preparing for several companies? Compare this with our guide to TCS NQT interview questions.
