Accenture Interview Questions for Freshers: Assessment & Rounds
Accenture's Associate Software Engineer eligibility and assessment rounds from its campus page, with prep tips and interview questions.

Accenture's fresher hiring for the Associate Software Engineer role runs in four steps, according to its India campus job page: a 90-minute cognitive and technical assessment, a 45-minute coding assessment with two problems, a communication assessment of about 30 minutes, and then interviews. The cognitive and technical round has section cut-offs, and the coding round starts right after you clear it, so prepare for both on the same day.
Below are the official eligibility rules and assessment details, the questions to prepare for each stage, and tips for the communication round that many engineering freshers underestimate. Accenture updates its drives, so confirm details in your invitation email. Preparing for several companies at once? Our campus placement preparation plan helps you schedule them.
Eligibility for Associate Software Engineer
These are the rules Accenture lists on its India campus page for the Associate Software Engineer (Packaged App Development Associate) role:
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Degree | Any engineering stream of B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech, or MCA, or M.Sc (CS/IT/Computer Applications/Data Science/Computer Science and Applications) |
| Backlogs | No active backlogs when you apply or join |
| Course duration | Degree completed within its stipulated duration, with no gaps (a 4-year B.Tech in 4 years) |
| Experience | No more than 23 months of full-time experience |
| Previous attempts | Not appeared for an Accenture assessment or interview in the last three months |
| Flexibility | Willing to relocate anywhere in India and work in 24x7 shifts as the business needs |
Non-engineering graduates (B.Sc, BCA, BBA, B.A, B.Com) apply for the separate System and Application Services Associate role, which has its own cognitive, technical and communication assessments.
The assessment rounds
| Stage | Time | What it tests |
|---|---|---|
| Mock assessment | 20 minutes | Mandatory practice run to check your hardware, software and internet |
| Cognitive and technical | 90 minutes | 50 cognitive questions (English ability, critical thinking and problem solving, abstract reasoning) and 40 technical questions (common applications and MS Office, pseudocode, fundamentals of networking, security and cloud) |
| Coding | 45 minutes | 2 problems in C, C++, .NET, Java or Python; starts right after you clear the previous round |
| Communication | About 30 minutes | Sentence mastery, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation; scheduled separately by email |
| Interviews | Varies | Technical and HR discussion |
Accenture says you must meet the section and subsection cut-offs in the cognitive and technical assessment, and the result appears within 5–10 minutes. Stay seated: the coding assessment begins immediately after the result.
Preparing for the cognitive and technical round
The technical section is broad rather than deep. Make a one-page note for each area and practise mixed question sets under time.
- MS Office and common applications: Excel formulas such as VLOOKUP and SUM, shortcuts, mail merge, PowerPoint basics.
- Pseudocode: trace loops, recursion and conditions, and predict the output.
- Networking: the OSI model, TCP vs UDP, IP addressing, DNS, HTTP vs HTTPS.
- Security: phishing, malware types, encryption basics, firewalls, two-factor authentication.
- Cloud: IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, public vs private cloud, and examples of each.
For the cognitive part, abstract reasoning (pattern series, odd one out) improves fastest with daily practice of 15–20 questions.
Preparing for the coding round
Two problems in 45 minutes means roughly 20 minutes each with a few minutes to test. Practise easy-to-medium problems on strings, arrays and basic maths in your chosen language, and get used to reading input exactly as the problem describes. Problems freshers often practise for this kind of round:
- Count the vowels, words or a given character in a string.
- Find the sum of elements at even positions in an array, or the second-largest element.
- Check whether a number is prime, a palindrome or an Armstrong number.
- Rotate an array by k positions.
- Remove duplicates from a sorted array.
Write simple, readable code first and optimise only if time allows. If you can't solve a problem fully, submit working code for the cases you can handle rather than leaving it blank.
Preparing for the communication assessment
Accenture assesses sentence mastery, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation. All four are spoken skills, so practise speaking aloud, not just reading.
| Parameter | How to practise |
|---|---|
| Sentence mastery | Repeat sentences you hear in English news clips, word for word |
| Vocabulary | Learn 10 common workplace words a day and use them in a sentence |
| Fluency | Speak on a simple topic for 60 seconds without stopping; record and replay |
| Pronunciation | Speak slowly and clearly; clarity matters more than accent |
Use a quiet room and earphones with a mic, so your speech comes through clearly.
