LinkedIn Profile for Freshers: Photo, Headline & About (Examples)

Section-by-section LinkedIn guide for freshers, with headline and About examples, LinkedIn's own limits, Open to Work settings and common mistakes.

Published October 5, 2026
Fresher's LinkedIn profile with headline, About section and projects filled in

A strong LinkedIn profile for a fresher has seven parts done well: a clear professional photo, a headline with your target role, skills and batch, a short About section with one proof point, projects and internships written like work, education, a focused skills list, and a custom URL. Turn on Open to Work for recruiters, and keep the profile consistent with your resume.

This guide walks through each section with examples for B.Tech, BCA, B.Com and MBA freshers, LinkedIn's own limits and settings, and the mistakes that make student profiles look empty. Start with the photo, since it is the first thing anyone sees. If you don't have a good one, an AI headshot generator that keeps your real face can make a square professional headshot from one clear selfie.

Profile photo and banner

Use a recent photo of only you, framed from the chest up, against a plain background, in the clothes you'd wear to an interview. LinkedIn's own help page says members with a profile photo get up to 2X more profile views and 3X more connection requests. Our LinkedIn profile photo tips cover framing, light and phone settings in detail.

The banner is optional but fills an obvious gap on a new profile. A clean image of code, a circuit, a city skyline or your college works. Avoid quotes in decorative fonts; they look busy on a phone.

Headline examples for freshers

LinkedIn creates your headline automatically from your latest position, which for students often becomes "Student at XYZ College". Replace it. The headline appears under your name in search results, comments and connection requests, so put your target role and strongest skills first.

"Seeking opportunities" and "Fresher" on their own tell a recruiter nothing. Name the role you want, even if you are open to others.

About section: a simple three-paragraph structure

LinkedIn's Talent Blog lists "Make your first sentence count", "Write how you speak" and "Create white space" among its tips for the About section, and notes that describing what drives you is "an especially good angle if you're younger and don't have much work experience". The limit is 2,600 characters, but freshers rarely need more than 800.

  1. What you do now: your degree, the work you enjoy, and the role you're aiming for.
  2. Proof: one project, internship or achievement with a result.
  3. What you want next: roles, domains or cities, and how to reach you.

Example: B.Tech computer science

I'm a final-year B.Tech Computer Science student at XYZ Institute of Technology, Pune, and I enjoy building backend systems that real people use.

My main project is a hostel complaint portal built with Spring Boot and MySQL. More than 300 students used it last semester, and it cut average resolution time from four days to two. I've also solved 300+ problems on LeetCode and completed the NPTEL course on database management.

I'm looking for backend or full-stack developer roles from mid-2026, in Pune, Bengaluru or Hyderabad. My GitHub is linked in the Featured section.

Example: B.Com

I'm a B.Com graduate from Osmania University with a strong interest in accounting and taxation.

During my internship at a CA firm, I prepared GST returns for 15 small businesses and reconciled their purchase registers in Tally Prime. I'm comfortable with Advanced Excel, including pivot tables and lookups.

I'm looking for junior accountant or accounts executive roles in Hyderabad. Happy to connect with finance professionals and CA firms.

Example: MBA marketing

I'm an MBA (Marketing) graduate from Symbiosis who likes combining data with creative campaigns.

In my summer internship at a D2C skincare brand, I ran an Instagram referral campaign that brought 1,200 sign-ups in four weeks, and built the weekly dashboard the team used to track it.

I'm looking for brand, growth or digital marketing associate roles. Open to Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru.

The two-line summary at the top of your resume can use the same words; see these resume summary examples.

Experience and projects: write them like work

Freshers often leave Experience empty. Add internships, industrial training, part-time jobs, tutoring, freelance work and college roles with real responsibility, such as a placement coordinator or fest organiser. Each entry needs two or three lines that start with a verb and end with a result.

Put your best academic and personal work in Projects, with a link to GitHub, a live demo or a short video. Use the same project descriptions as your resume, so a recruiter who checks both sees one consistent story.

Skills and certifications

List 10 to 15 specific skills you could answer interview questions on: "Java", "Spring Boot", "MySQL", "Power BI", "Tally Prime", "Google Analytics". Keep the list focused on the role you want. Skip vague entries such as "MS Office", "Hard work" or "Communication" on their own; show communication through your About section and projects instead.

Add certifications with the issuer, date and credential link: NPTEL, AWS, Google, Microsoft and Coursera certificates are all easy for a recruiter to check.

Custom URL and Open to Work

LinkedIn lets you change the last part of your profile URL. It can be 3 to 100 characters, with no spaces, symbols, special characters or the word "LinkedIn", and LinkedIn recommends a variation of your name. To change it, click Me, then View Profile, then the edit icon next to Public profile & URL. Put the clean URL on your resume.

Open to Work tells recruiters you're looking. LinkedIn offers three visibility settings:

SettingWho sees itBest for
All LinkedIn MembersEveryone, with an #OpenToWork frame on your photoFreshers and graduates actively looking, with no current employer to worry about
Recruiters onlyPeople using LinkedIn RecruiterStudents and anyone who prefers a quieter signal
Visible only to youOnly you; used for LinkedIn's job recommendationsGetting better job suggestions without signalling

To turn it on: click Me, then View profile, then Open to, then Finding a new job. Add your target job titles and locations, choose the visibility and save.

Mistakes that make fresher profiles look empty

MistakeFix
Headline says only "Student at XYZ College"Target role, top skills, degree and batch
No photo, or a group or party photoA clear, recent chest-up photo
Empty About sectionThree short paragraphs with one proof point
Projects without links or resultsAdd GitHub or demo links and one result per project

Default URL with random numbersClaim linkedin.com/in/your-name

Keep it active for 30 minutes a week

A complete profile is the base; a little activity makes it visible. Each week, connect with five alumni working in roles you want, with a one-line note. Follow the companies on your target list. Comment usefully on a post or two in your field. Once a month, share something you built or learned, such as a project demo or a certification, with two or three lines about what you did.
