Resume Keywords for Data Analysts (SQL, Power BI, Python)

The resume keywords that matter most for a data analyst are SQL, Excel, a BI tool (Power BI or Tableau), Python or R, and the analysis work itself: data cleaning, dashboards, reporting, KPIs, A/B testing and stakeholder communication. Use the exact names from the job post, show each one in a bullet with a business result, and leave out tools you couldn't answer questions on.

Which skills employers ask for
O*NET, the US Department of Labor's occupation database, lists the technologies used by business intelligence analysts, the closest occupation to most data analyst roles. Its in-demand list includes Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Snowflake, Salesforce and SAP software, alongside Python, SQL, Tableau and Google Analytics. It's a US source, so use it as a cross-check against the job posts you're targeting.
Recruiters then search for those exact names. Naukri's support documentation describes keyword searches with "All the words", "Any of the Words" or "Exact Phrase" matching, so "Power BI" on your resume matters more than "BI dashboards".

Show keywords with results
A skills list tells a recruiter what you claim. A bullet shows what you did with it. Pair every core keyword with at least one bullet like these, using numbers you can explain in an interview.

Keywords for freshers
Without work experience, put the keywords in projects and certifications. A strong fresher data resume names the tool, the dataset and the outcome:
- "Sales analysis (SQL, Power BI): analysed 3 years of public retail data and built a 4-page dashboard showing seasonal demand."
- "Customer churn model (Python, pandas, scikit-learn): predicted churn on a Kaggle telecom dataset with 82% accuracy."
- "Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, 2026" in the certifications section.
